The Biggest Wins in Casino History

Casinolsots presents: The Biggest Wins in Casino History.

Some gamblers play using strategies they have learned and fit the game and their bankroll, while others risk large sums of money on the off chance of an enormous win. Both ways of gambling can be life changing if you happen to win large amounts of money, turning ordinary people into millionaires in a matter of hours. We are not here to say which way is the correct one to play, we have enough strategy videos on our channel for you to watch and decide how you prefer to play at the casino, so in this article, we will just share with you some of the biggest wins in casino history so you’ll see that anything is possible and that the house doesn’t always wins.

Archie Karas (Poker & Craps)

Archie Karas, also known as the “king of the casinos,” was able to turn $50 into $40 million!!! Karas used to work as a waiter, until he learned about pool hustling, where he amassed serious wealth, to the tune of $1 million. He was never afraid of losing his money, and therefore he would bet, in a single throw of the dice, what many gamblers might earn in a lifetime. While playing high-stakes card games in Los Angeles, he won plenty of money, but was also completely broke on numerous occasions.

It was December of 1992 when Archie began what many consider the greatest hot streak in the history of gambling. He had just lost $2 million during a Los Angeles high-stakes poker game, so he only had $50 to spare. But that was enough to start winning, and winning big. Archie began in Binion’s Horseshoe casino where a friend spotted him $10,000 to play high-stakes Razz, a game in which the lowest hand wins.

He went head-to-head with 15 of the world’s greatest poker players, including Stu Unger, Chip Reese, Johnny Chan and Puggy Pearson. He won millions at poker before winning millions more at craps, eventually coming into possession of the Horsehoe’s $5,000 chips, worth $11 million. By the time his run ended, he had won $17 million playing craps and poker at the Horseshoe. Incidentally, he was able to repay the $10,000 loan with 50% interest. His winning streak continued for over two years, until he had amassed $40 million.

He was able to turn $7 million into $17 million by besting some of the best poker players in Vegas at seven-card stud. He also earned over a million dollars playing nine-ball pool. Even the occasional losing streak was not enough to keep him from winning far more than he lost. His winning streak, however, did eventually come to an end over a three-week period in 1995, where he lost $11 million playing craps. He also lost $17 million at baccarat and another $2 million at poker.

He soon lost the remainder of his $40 million, although he was eventually able to borrow $40,000 to win back $1 million. Archie’s luck may have ran out in spectacular fashion, but his phenomenal winning streak remains the stuff of legend, and it is proof that anything is possible in gambling. The wisdom is to know and save some on the side and not gamble it, so you’ll still be a millionaire and not become broke.

Elmer Sherwin (Megabucks Slots)

In 1989, a man won $4.6 million on a Megabucks slot machine at the Cannery Casino & Hotel in Vegas. His name was Elmer Sherwin, and he beat the odds, not once but twice, on the same slot machine. Some people consider certain machines lucky, so, after Sherwin won his $4.6 million, he continued playing the same machine until he eventually won $2.1 million in 2005 when he was 92 years old, despite the odds of winning being estimated at one in fifty million! Sherwin said he had been a fan of Megabucks for a long time. He believed it would pay off eventually, and that belief sustained him for years until his second win confirmed his instincts.

Sherwin’s first win came on the casino’s opening night, leading to speculation about how big wins occur on opening nights. But as everyone attempts to explain what cannot be explained, a mythology arises. People may wonder how to duplicate Sherwin’s luck, but so far, he remains the big winner, twice over. There are other big winners of Megabucks slots, including a retired flight attendant who risked $300 in 1998 and won $27.5 million.

Such wins may be rare, but they do happen from time to time. That is why playing the slots is so much fun and easy, as you risk a little (or any amount you decided) and can win millions of millions of dollars, just by pushing a button…

Peter (Online Slots)

Peter, a Norwegian gambler, has won one of the largest online gambling payouts. It may not be his real name, but that is not what is important.

What matters is that he became an online casino winner by playing a progressive jackpot slot called Arabian Knights, and it was the fruit slot machine that made his surprise win possible, as his winning streak netted him 11.7 million Euros Peter played at the Betsson online casino which features the slogan, “Anything can happen”, and for him it did, it really happened and it changed his life for good.

Mike Ashley (Roulette)

Mike Ashley, multi-billionaire owner of the Newcastle United Football Club, was already famous when he won 1.6 million pounds in the span of three hours at a roulette table in a London casino. His lucky number was 17, and his method of betting focused on every possible combination of that number. As luck would have it, the roulette ball dropped into the 17 slot, converting his initial 480,000 pounds to three times that amount. Ashley retrieved his winnings and called it a day.

The odds of hitting 17 were high, but Ashley must have known that even a lucky number rarely strikes twice in a row. However, in 2011, Ashley lost one million pounds in the span of two hours. Still, he is a multi-billionaire, so we’re not too worried about him.

Sean Connery (Roulette)

Yes, that Sean Connery, the super spy James Bond which happened to had a lot of luck betting on the number 17.

While at a casino in the Italian Alps, Connery put his money on 17. He missed the first two times, but on the third spin, the ball landed on 17. Leaving his winnings there, the croupier spun the wheel. Surprisingly, the ball landed on 17 again. What may have been even more surprising, or perhaps insane, was the fact that Connery once again left his winnings in place, and you guessed it, the ball fell on 17 for the third time in a row, against odds of 50,000 to 1. Sean Connery then coolly collected his winnings of 10,000 pounds, which in today’s market could very well be worth 163,000 pounds.

Interesting fact is that there was a time when “17” was one of the most commonly played numbers in roulette. Not only did Connery win big on the number 17 in 1963, but he did the same in the 1971 Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever.

Charlie Wells (Roulette)

Way back, in 1891, Charlie Wells netted $1 million after playing roulette for 11 straight hours. He was the man who literally “broke the bank at Monte Carlo,” inspiring a famous music hall song by Fred Gilbert. Breaking the bank meant winning more chips than are available on the table, and Wells did that not once, but 12 times in the course of the night. It turns out Charlie Wells was a famous confidence trickster.

After making a profit from a fraudulent invention called the “musical jumping rope,” he decided to try his luck in Monte Carlo. His game of choice was roulette, and it was at the roulette table that Wells took 4,000 francs in chips and turned them into a million francs, winning 23 out of 30 successive spins at one point. After winning a million francs, he came back to the same casino a year later and won another million francs over the course of three days.

In today’s dollars, his one million francs could be worth well over $20 million. However, Luck was not always so kind to Wells, and after amassing more money from people who had invested in a fuel-saving device he invented for steam ships, he lost everything at gambling. He later spent 11 years in prison in England for fraud and 5 years in a French prison before he passed away in 1922, penniless and broke. I guess you could call it karma…

William Darnborough (Roulette)

William Darnborough hailed from Illinois when he played roulette at a Monte Carlo casino, winning half a million dollars over the course of 7 years between 1904 and 1911, which could be a staggering amount in today’s market. He had already become an expert gambler by playing roulette in the U.S. at illegal casinos operated inside saloons.

It was said he was a wheel-watcher who could anticipate where the ball might land. Unlike Wells, though, Darnborough quit playing while he was ahead, and thus kept all of his fortune.

Don Johnson (Blackjack)

Professional Gambler, Don Johnson, had a technique when it came to blackjack. He negotiated rules to give himself an edge, like splitting a favorable hand into four separate hands, picking dealers who stopped drawing cards when a hand equaled 17, thus increasing Johnson’s chances of getting a better hand, and whenever he could, he would double his bet.

Fortunately for Johnson, some casinos offer high-rollers 10% paybacks, meaning he could keep an entire win while still keeping money after a loss. By also negotiating the right to bet up to $25,000 a hand, he was able to multiply his winnings much more quickly. Although Johnson relied on luck as much as anyone else, his use of the rules left less to chance and more to strategy, earning him $15 million from three casinos in half a year.

Ashley Revell (Roulette)

Around 2003, Ashley Revell sold his home and belongings in London and left for Vegas with roughly $135,000. He risked it all by placing it on red on a roulette wheel at the Plaza Casino in downtown Vegas. He quickly doubled his money and left.

Although Revell was not a professional gambler, he assumed an enormous risk and won big. He now owns iGaming Recruitment that helps staff gambling companies.

Kerry Packer (Blackjack & Baccarat)

Billionaire Kerry Packer could afford to place large bets, and so, during a 1995 trip to the MGM Grand in Vegas, he won between $20 and $40 million at blackjack and baccarat. Allegedly, Packer played up to eight hands at once on multiple tables, betting up to $250,000 a hand.

Forty minutes after his first bet, he had already won $25 million, finishing $20 million ahead of where he started. Lady Luck favored Packer on a number of other occasions from 2010 through 2011. A $5.8 million win at the Tropicana Casino took under 12 hours, and also winning millions over a number of nights at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. However, his luck turned two years later when he lost $28 million in a London casino.

Patricia Demauro (Craps)

With its many betting options, craps gives players a chance of winning big or losing big. For Patricia Demauro, luck was on her side that day.

She had only played craps once before, so when she arrived at the craps table at the Borgata in Atlantic City, she could not have been expecting to win 154 consecutive throws in the span of 4 hours and 18 minutes. Although she never revealed her winnings, she bought in for a mere $10 and could have won hundreds of thousands of dollars with conservative bets. If she were placing expert bets, winnings may have been in the millions.

It should be noted that the odds of her accomplishment were 1 in 1.56 trillion!!! And yet it happened in one unbelievable night. Other Notable Winnings The cases and stories covered in this video are not that rare and there are actually huge casino payouts all the time.

Here are some other notable winnings that although crazy to believe, actually happened: An anonymous man that was waiting for a basketball game at the Excalibur Casino won $39 million dollars at a slot machine A woman visiting Vegas from Hawaii played the same slot machine for three hours with less than $100 before winning close to $9 million. Another woman won $680 on a Wheel of Fortune machine at the Palace Station Hotel, later to win $27 million in a Megabucks jackpot. I guess one win wasn’t enough.

A Former owner of the Golden Nugget wrote of a video game developer called Mr. Royalty who walked out with close to $5 million, only to come back a week later to win an additional $1.5 million. There is even a story of a homeless man who cashed a $400 social security check and turned it into roughly $1.5 million at the Treasure Island casino. Those who observed the man considered him the rudest and luckiest player they had ever seen. Unfortunately, the man later lost it all before being kicked out.

Macau is a Las Vegas Of Asia

Its scary, but beautiful good morning today we are heading to macau before checking out ill, go to the gym and then will go to the ferry station. There is a fast boat ride to macau from hong kong to macau. It takes 35 to 45 minutes ill to to the station and see how ill buy the tickets. Finally, im ready im going to macau for one reason: only HIGHEST BUNGEE, JUMPING IN THE WORLD From a commercial building ill go there a JUMP each and everyone of us has a fear of heights. But there is nothing better than the feeling when you challenge yourself and discover that your fear was nothing aha, newly married from hong kong to macau. There are 2 types of boats Turbo Jet, the other one is Cotai jet same price for both around 70 saudi riyals.

For one way, 171 Hong Kong Dollar – i checked out and will go to the station bye, bye, hong kong actually ill be back to hong kong. Again before i go ill, buy a cup of coffee and then ill go. The people here are so busy.

I mean they might nit reply to you when you say thank you because its a waste of time among themselves they smile and talk properly, but not with tourists or may be. I have some problem. Look at the queue behind me.

They wanna buy tickets for Tomorrow, and here i am wan na buy tickets. For today they told me its finished i have already booked for today in macau. I found people selling it black market. Look at the price 171 $.

I went to one of them. He told me it costs 250 Hong kong Dolla, it costs 171 $ why 250 went to the queue they told me. Nothing is available, went back to that chinese guy told him. Ok, give me for 250. He said nooooo. Now the price has become 270 $ 10 minutes ago.

You told me 250, he said no, that was in the past. This is the last tickets. I cant give it to you. I told him come on man give it for 250. As you said before such a lie, i rememberd russel petters. He said a similar story on a stage show.

So when you come book online tickets ahead of time tickets get sold really fast. The population of Macau is 650 thousands. The problem is, they live in a 30 square km. Only so macau is one of the most densely populated country in the world. Since 1557 AD, the Portuguese occupied Macau till 1887 AD.

They used to pay for 250 or 300 years. They used to pay 19 KG of Sliver to China for every year they spent in Macau in 1887. The Portuguese said we have been here long enough now this is our country and they occupied it. In 1999, the Portuguese returned Macau to China for an agreement for the next 50 years. Macau will be a liberal country, freedom of law, freedom of econmoics and china will not interfere in the internal affairs. So, according to the agreement, china will be responsible for all External affairs of Macau for all internal affairs.

China will not interfere when i arrived. I noticed this bus, which will take me to the hotel for free after a 10 minutes walk. I arrived at the reception. This hotel is Huge, wow, beautiful room. This is the bathroom here. You wash your hands shower here.

If you didnt, like the first one, you use this one here is the bathroom whats, this toilet paper, dental kit for shaving, another dental kit, bedroom. The Venetian is located in Macau and Las Vegas as well. The hotels here arent too expensive, so you would come and play in the casino and use your money. The hotel is so big that the lobby has a map. This is the 3rd floor in the lobby, and this is the 5th floor in the lobby and then the first floor in the lobby.

These are all the shops in the lobby and here are the rest of the shops. There is a mall in the shape of Valencia, its so beautiful in the lobby. We will go and see the hotel and how is it then ill, bungee jump and the day will be over in the lobby bed here and tv there couch there tv there, food here sleep there nap here, reading and studying here tv here looking at people from Here, Masha Allah: this hotel is an old fashioned hotel.

This egg tart shop is very famous here. This one is good, not like the one i had in hong kong. The Venetian Macau is the largest hotel in one building structure in the world, and it has the largest Casino in the world im surprised by the size. They have given me a Map, so big you can get lost inside the lobby. The number of Casinos in Macao Surpasses the number in Las Vegas.

This is thier currency Patacas. There are alot of words in the portugesse languge that were taken from arabic, Patacas mean Card in Arabic. There are alot of words in Macau which were taken from Portugese and hence from Arabic, ill, go and jump from there from time to time. One must try something he is afraid of it just gives meaning to life.

Unfortunately, the bungy jumping is under maintenance, not working since its not available so ill. Try something else: Skywalk ill, walk on the edge of the tower ill, try to lay back and spread my hands a bit scary, but fun. It was a wonderful experience, ill come again and do the bungy jumping in the future.

I feel so bad, i traveled to Macau for the bungy and it was not available. I wish i asked them before i travel all the way. I really feel bad sad. I wanted this so much if you liked this adventure.

Poker Thoughts – The Future of Poker

Poker Thoughts with Doug Polk What is up, everyone! Doug Polk here and we’re back for another episode of Poker Thoughts. And today we’re going to discuss something a little bit more “advanced.” I want to talk about the ecosystem of poker. I want to talk about where I think poker is headed, and I want to dispel some general “poker is dead” type theories/rumors that are going on. Now… before we talk about those things, I want to say one thing first, which is…

There is absolutely no doubt. Poker is getting HARDER. And BECAUSE poker is getting harder, there are going to be less and less people coming up in the game that win a ton of money.

Okay? Those are both just facts. I’m not going to sugarcoat it and be like, ‘Well EVERYONE can still win!’

No. That is totally not true. You have to work MUCH harder to get the same results you could 5-10 years ago. But the people that are saying, ‘Oh it can’t be done! There’s no way! It just CAN’T happen anymore!’

That’s also simply not true. Now just because an individual person themselves, like THEY couldn’t do it… does NOT mean that the population can’t, or that certain people cannot. There are a lot of smart people out there who even in the last 5-10 years… you know, particularly in the last 5 years have managed to work their way up to the top. And I think if you look at someone like “OtB_RedBaron” I believe… And I might be wrong here but I think it was either 4 or 5 years ago.

I want to say 4 years ago. He had a thread on TwoPlusTwo where he played NL $500 Zoom and talked about hands, and posted graphs and whatever. And that was 4 years ago and he’s become the single-best player online today! He went from mid-stakes all the way to being number one at 6-max.

So… I know that even nowadays it’s harder than it was then. But what I’m trying to show is that there are examples of people coming up in these difficult climates. And being able to make their way to the top. So we need to divide this conversation into TWO separate areas.

We need to talk about Live Poker and we need to talk about Online Poker. And being that I know more about online poker, I’m going to start off with that. Online poker has become a LOT tougher in the last few years for a variety of reasons. But the first and probably most important reason is that information is able to pass-along so quickly.

There are SO many ways to get better. You can go to TwoPlusTwo and read the high stakes threads and see all the big hands. You can pull up PokerStars and see what the best players are doing. You can go over to Upswing Poker and learn how to play! There are SO many ways for players to get better at the game nowadays, that…

It’s not like it was 5-10 years ago. Maybe there was CardRunners and yeah, you could learn those things… But people weren’t so ACTIVELY in it. They weren’t trying to improve, because… The game was so much easier.

It was so much easier to just learn some basic “strat” and have a big upswing. But as edges get smaller and as things become more competitive, people are more incentivized to try and become better and learn. So a lot of these things have been out there for a long time, but i think people are taking more advantage of them now, which makes the game harder. Additionally, there are things like “Solvers” which help people play a much stronger game… than they would be able to play on their own. And as we see software develop, it will become better and better to the point where it can beat humans.

I personally don’t think it’s at that point right now, and I look back a year ago when I played the “Bot Challenge.” Me, Donger Kim, Jason Les, and Bjorn Li… we beat the [Carnegie Mellon University] computer team. But these things are only going to get stronger.

Poker is a game of information. It’s a game where you make decisions based on information. And computers are really good at that stuff! So… Long term, I think that as players get better and learn more, it will continue to make the game worse. Now… There is also the existence of Scripts.

I think that hurts a bit at the higher stakes. And then of course, the last BIG reason I think Online Poker is getting tougher is RAKE INCREASES. Particularly at small-to-mid stakes, I think its effects are most exaggerated, because players that might be winning at 2, or 3, or 4 Big Blinds with low rake could be break-even otherwise. But the effects of rake increases are felt all the way up to the top, where… a lot of times what can make a good $25/$50 game run is a “Reg” who thinks they’re winning, that’s NOT winning. Or maybe they’re barely losing. And in order for that player to have their 0 Big Blind winrate, or their -0.5 BB winrate.

They need RAKEBACK to make that a reality, right? To be able to play larger samples, so… What having no rakeback at those stakes does is, it makes that player pool more competitive. And it removes the ability for a lot of these kind of mediocre to bad regs… [Less rakeback removes] their ability to play in those games. So… Rake increase is also a negative effect on Online Poker. But now that we have ALL the negative stuff out of the way, let’s talk about some positive things still going on in Online Poker. There still are a variety of places you can play.

And it seems like even more places gearing up to allow you to play in the future. Additionally, there still are stories of people coming up in the game and having success. Like “OtB_RedBaron” 4 or 5 years ago.

So, there ARE players still doing it. There ARE still a lot of new faces. I played in the $10/$20 and $25/$50 games recently, and there’s a bunch of new guys that came up that I hadn’t seen before. You know, really in the past year or two, right? So I don’t think it’s impossible, and there are people currently doing it.

It’s just harder. You have to be on more sites. You have to be picking your games better. You have to be finding better rake. You know, we talk a lot about a lot of stuff in the ‘How to Win at Poker’ Poker Thoughts, but those elements become more and more important as the environment becomes more competitive.

Now I think the single-most scary thing about Online Poker is the “nosebleed” games. Are they just gonna become bots? And at some point, you know… I have to imagine they will, because there’s too much incentive for people to cheat and have programs play for them for that much money.

And that’s really the SCARY thing I think about high stakes online, and why I think THAT particular element in poker will eventually die out. Because the people that are going to play on their own and not have programs, or Dream Machines, or whatever. They’re going to be at a disadvantage from the people that have those things. And the problem is, a disadvantage multiplied by like a $1,000 Big Blind is like a LOT of money.

So I think the days of ‘Rail Heaven’ of ‘MalACEsia’ and all that stuff, I think those days are kind of behind us. I’m not saying there wouldn’t be maybe a mini-boom or maybe if one or two players really jump in… I know that ‘Aron0621’ guy has been playing a bunch on PokerStars, so I’m not saying there wouldn’t be little things that can happen to spark up the games. And maybe if America comes back to poker in a big way (particularly California), that could really, really boom the high stakes games. But long-run, you know you CAN’T have games played for a lot of money that are based around using data to interpret things.

I mean, think about Chess. What if there was like Super High Stakes Chess on the Internet. What would that really…?

You know? It just doesn’t really make sense unless it’s Speed Chess, right? SPEED POKER! There ya’ go! We’re gonna play poker really fast! No.

Anyway, the point is… Online Poker is still fine. The effects are negative. I dislike where high stakes is going, but there still is a great opportunity for people to be able to learn, play better, improve… support a site with good rake with a good system of treating their players by playing there.

And finding the best spots to play. Finding the best games to play and build your bankroll. Because THAT can still be done in Online Poker.

Maybe we’re not going to have all these million-dollar winners like we did back in the day. But I guarantee you there are going to be players that are going to come up from this day forward, who are going to be making $200k, $300k, $400k or $500k a year in online poker. And they’re just going to have to work harder and be better players than the people that came before them. Next up, we’re going to talk about Live Poker. And frankly, I think Live Poker is going in a POSITIVE direction. If you look at a lot of the recent High Roller field sizes, if you look at a lot of the recent Main Event field sizes, a lot of them are growing.

Which is great. It shows a lot of people are interested. A lot of people are getting in there that haven’t before. A lot of people are maybe pooling their money together to get into these events.

And “The Dream” is alive and well. I mean, look at the World Series of Poker. It’s been BLASTING OFF for the last few years. Particularly because they are including events like the “Colossus” or the “Millionaire Maker”… (great marketing there by the way, WSOP — GREAT) But anyway, the point is… Live Poker is increasingly growing in field size and in money in-the-mix.

Now, are the games getting a little harder? Yes. The games HAVE gotten harder and there’s also a lot more private games now compared to before… so you can’t just hop-on-down to Bobby’s Room and jump into the biggest thing running. There are private games, specifically at the ARIA or at home games, etc. So I’m not saying it’s AS GOOD as before, BUT… I would say that Tournaments overall and really Live Cash.

These areas are growing in how many players are playing them. And even if the skill level might be increasing with the current player pool, The addition of new players and pulling-in these people that don’t know how to play, That will make them softer. So I don’t really see Live Poker going anywhere for the foreseeable future. I think that Tournaments are going to be a great way, for some time to come, to make money.

The downside with Live Poker really is that you play 30 hands an hour in a game with a lot of variance. So you’re going to have to play MUCH longer hours to get the same return in terms of your Deviation. Or rather, to have the consistent-type winnings you would have online if you’re good, might take you much more time live. So it might take you months or maybe even a year or two to go through the same sample as you get online… in like a month, or a couple of weeks. So, I’m happy with that direction and in the last couple of years, if you look at where my play has been, I have shifted it from an online focus. You know, I still play a decent chunk online, but I shifted it from an online focus to more of a live focus.

Besides the fact that I couldn’t actually get action in Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em back then, also, when I looked at the Tournaments. I looked at how soft they were. I looked at all the mistakes that were being made. I really thought that was a spot that I could jump in there and make more money. And these last two-and-a-half years I think I’ve probably had about $5 million USD earnings. So you know, it’s gone well, right?

But the point is… Poker as a whole, when we look at both sections, You know, it IS getting tougher. No one’s denying that. If someone says that it’s not getting tougher, they’re lying to you.

But the game is still growing in some areas. And there are still many opportunities to move up in stakes, learn, and improve. And the other great thing is that if you ARE a hard worker, there are so many more opportunities for you to learn, and for you to get better… than there was back in the day. You know, really there was just like Taylor Caby vids.

That was it. Now there’s so much more. And there are so many ways to learn.

And, I would say overall the future of poker is much more optimistic than most people are making it out to be. But still worse than it was in years past. Alright. Thank you for joining me here for Poker Thoughts, and I’ll see you next week!

Hotkeys in Online Poker for Effortless Multitabling

Do you click the bet, raise and fold buttons every time you act in online poker? Are you moving the bet slider or type in your bet amount? How about using some hotkeys instead? With hotkeys you can save valuable time when playing poker online, which in turn will allow you to play more tables. In short, by using hotkeys when multitabling will benefit your winrate and make you more money. Or at least, hotkeys will make for an effortless multitabling.

Previously I discussed about multitabling and how your winrate increases by playing at more tables at the same time. Granted, multitabling isn’t for everyone. But if you find it difficult to sit down at more tables or cannot go past four tables, hotkeys may be the answer to your prayers.

Hotkeys allow you to assign keyboard keys, mouse buttons or even your gamepad buttons to specific actions. For example, you can set the fold action to right click, or set the pot-sized bet to the spacebar of your keyboard. Every time you need to fold your unplayable hand, you just right-click and move on to the next table.

Every time you need to raise the pot, you just press the spacebar and the action is back to your opponents. Hotkeys are offered by the most popular poker rooms, such as PokerStars. You can assign different strokes to each command and can program your mouse’s individual buttons, so that you no longer need to use your keyboard at all! A gaming mouse is a must for that reason. Let’s see how I have set up my Logitech mouse.

This mouse allows for three different setups, one of which I have dedicated to poker indicated by the green illuminated color on the side. But first, let’s check out my hotkeys at PokerStars. Via hotkeys I am able to fold, go all-in, bet 3 blinds when opening preflop and bet a different percentage of the pot, depending on what I’m trying to achieve. You’ll notice that I have not assigned a hotkey for calling, since calling requires more thinking in my opinion. Folding is usually the easiest and most frequent action, while raising and betting are often standard actions, like when open-raising, value-betting, bluff-raising, stealing or re-stealing. In order for me to just call though, there must be a good reason to do so, such as trapping or bluff-catching.

Also note that I have assigned Alt Shift keystroke combinations instead of just a single key. I strongly recommend you do as well, so that you avoid pressing buttons by mistake and harm your bankroll unexpectedly. Now, let’s go back to the mouse setup. First of all, the fold action is assigned to the right-most button of the mouse. This is a special gaming mouse with, let’s say, two right buttons.

By assigning the fold hotkey on that button, I still get to use the right click the normal way. That is quite helpful, given the general functionality of the right-click button of the mouse, like bringing up menus. Thus, each time I get dealt a J2 or a Q5, I just hover the mouse over that table and click that button. By doing so, I can fold my cards at 4 tables in one second!

Even if the action isn’t at me at that moment, my command is registered and will execute shortly. Moving over to the bet commands, the first line of mouse buttons allow me to bet full pot or go all-in. These are the most aggressive actions that my hotkeys take care of. The three next mouse buttons are mostly used for continuation betting. They set the bet amount at 60, 70 and 80% of the pot respectively.

Depending on my position or on how many villains are still in the pot, I may elect for a less conservative bet amount. Should the circumstances justify it, I can go even more aggressive with the last 3 buttons. For instance, I will bet 90% of the pot or consider overbetting, in case I value bet against a fishy calling station.

All these hotkeys apart from the fold action, do not send a command actually, unless I manually press the bet/raise button. While you can set the aforementioned hotkeys to complete the relevant action for much quicker response, I have opted to just set the bet amount instead of actually place the bet. Better safe than sorry. When you are starting out setting up your hotkeys for the first time, I suggest avoiding full automation, until you are perfectly sure you know what you are doing – and pressing! Finally, there are commercial products online offering hotkey functionality for various poker rooms. Feel free to try them out, as most of them offer a trial period.

As I’m mostly playing at PokerStars though, I’m feeling comfortable with the built-in hotkey settings. No need to spend money on third-party software in regards to hotkeys. Practice your hotkeys and you will quickly become a master of multitabling in online poker!
